As leading coordinators building ecodesign links between industry, higher education and policy makers across Wales, Dr Frank O'Connor and Simon O'Rafferty are experts able to illustrate the role of design and the designer in addressing environmental and social responsibility issues. The focus of their presentation will be to introduce a range of case study projects that demonstrate the need to take a joined-up multi-stakeholder approach to embedding ecodesigdfsdfdsfent context on which to focus design challenges in urban and rural Ireland.

Biography
Simon trained as an industrial designer in Ireland and spent a number of years primarily working in branding and new media design. In 2005, he obtained an MSc in Sustainable Development and is currently a PhD candidate. The PhD will assess how regional governments can support ecodesign and sustainable innovation in SMEs. His current research interests include sustainable consumption and production, innovation systems and government intervention. Simon has also held positions in various NGOs including ECO-UNESCO, Irish Fair Trade Network, and Sustainable Wales along with volunteering with an organisation that works with street children in Russia.
